Goodreads asked Kathleen Jowitt:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Kathleen Jowitt The opportunity to work through any problem, or explore any scenario, or even indulge any daydream. I become the (usually, but not always, benevolent) deity of my own world - and then I share it.

And it's the cheapest form of art. Exercise books are cheap and words are free. I've been collecting them all my life I find them lying around in the street, in the library, from the internet, and take them home and use them. I can use as many of them as I like and discard as many of them as I like. Nothing is wasted - no experience, nothing I've written. Even if it doesn't make it into the final text, it's still useful.
