Goodreads asked Richard Adrian Reese:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Richard Adrian Reese Write a million words, skill develops over years. Top quality results from dozens of revision sweeps, and mercilessly deleting every word of crap. Don’t rush. I’ve read hundreds of books, and I generally type 10 to 20 pages of notes while I read each one, noting the page numbers as I go. Today, I have thousands of pages of notes, some that are 20 years old. Using a search utility, I can extract notes on specific subjects, often stuff I had forgotten. My computer has a far better memory than I do. Detailed notes are a treasure.
