Goodreads asked Tim Muldoon:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Tim Muldoon I'm working on a book about how to renew our communities. I learned about an innovative and contagious model unfolding in Shreveport, Louisiana, and just had to help tell its story!

I was working for a nonprofit that supports faith communities around the United States, and was researching an organization nominated by the local Catholic diocese for its annual award. I'd met many generous people who were serving others in heroic ways, but in Shreveport I learned about Community Renewal International (CRI), an exciting model that has transformed entire neighborhoods and which is spawning models now in other cities around the country and even across the world. The book focuses on CRI's model of intentional, purposeful friendship-- the kind of relationship that people must learn to practice if our communities will survive in the face of fragmentation, alienation, loneliness, and decline.
