In The Harder They Come, was there a real-life model for Sara, or was she more of a "type"? Are there actual people who expect that "I have no contract with you" stuff to get them out of trouble when they've broken laws?

T. Coraghessan Boyle Sara is purely invented, though I did read a news account of someone like her. The Sovereign Citizens movement exists and the facts related to it in the novel are true.

I just want to register an appreciation. have read them all with such pleasure: especially drop city. I visited the nm one in 1970, it was interesting but not fun, the last days, crackerjack toys allover the hard land, but our drop ity was memorable.
