Jacqueline Winspear Hi Carolyn - what can I say, it just came to me. Harry Potter walked into JK Rowling's life while she was on a train, and Maisie Dobbs caught up with me while I was stuck in traffic. She came complete with a name and a past, and who was I to argue with her choice of calling? I call it my moment of artistic grace.

I truly love your books, both the Maisie Dobbs series and the stand alone, Care and Management of Lies, but I echo another questioner when I ask-why so much sadness and loss? Do you feel that it is more realistic, more true to life that everyone loses everyone they love? Will there ever be a happily ever after?
