Outside of the era you have based Maisie in, is there another period in British history that interests you? Or if you were to create an American protagonist ( female of course ) which era would you base her in? P.S: I really do hope they dramatize these one day.

Good Question! I did so much deeper history at school (from the Middle Ages until the Regency period, that I never wanted to go back there again! However, I think the period from the start of the industrial revolution onwards is really interesting. It's those times when everything is changing, when people are being asked to move into another world with dizzying speed that fascinate me. And I can't really answer the second part of the question as I am doing the groundwork in creating another protagonist, and it's never a good idea to talk about ideas in the early stages - takes away the impetus to write about something if you talk about it!

I want to thank for Maisie Dobbs, as well. I enjoy reading mysteries series, so what you do fits me very well. However, while many series are extremely formulaic, yours are not. The writing is more literary than a normal mystery series. I always learn so much about the time period and the people when I read one of your books. And, your characters are so human, well-rounded, and real. How do you do this?

Hello Jacqueline, I am so thrilled to have this opportunity, thank you! My question is about Maisie: While she has some insecurities and makes some decisions fueled by those emotions, she seem to have no actual human vices (yet is still very complex/developed!). Is her character designed to reflect the morés of women in her class of British society at the time, or is her "self-actualization" a writing strategy?
