James Scarlett-lyon
James Scarlett-lyon asked Sara Nović:

I spent a month in the Balkans last Sept, (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Montenegro), and plan to return next spring. I truly loved the Balkans. I've been doing some reading of Balkan history and some novels, (Ivo Andric). I'm assuming you wrote this book from some measure of personal experience of the war. I'd like to know more about your experience and any books about the Balkans you would recommend?

Sara Nović Thanks for reading! I'd definitely recommend anything by Dubravka Ugresic and Alexander Hemon, particularly The Ministry of Pain by the former, and The Question of Bruno by the latter. There's also a nonfiction work of narrative journalism about the war in Bosnia called Love Thy Neighbor, by Peter Maass, that I think is a very good overview of the war in its later stages.
