Tom Heeren
Tom Heeren asked Jacqueline Winspear:

I'm writing a historical novel about a middle aged widow of two teenage sons and a preteen daughter who faces Armistice Day for the first time as well as the first two Christmases (1918 and 1919). Do I have to use the second season of "Downton Abbey" as a sounding to help me write a better historical novel or do I need to read more WWI fiction for my writing historical novels? Thanks a lot!!

Jacqueline Winspear Tom - really, the second season of "Downton Abbey?" I think you should be reading more non-fiction books on WW1. You want to immerse yourself in the real time and place to be able to create time and place in your novel - you don't want to reflect someone else's interpretation of a given era.
