Who are some of your favorite authors that have had a big influence on your writing career?

Steven James Hmm... I'd say that I learned to write more concisely from Walter Wangerin Jr after reading "The Book of the Dun Cow." I've always been a fan of Stephen King (love his organic writing style.) I like Thomas H. Cooke's crime novels—short and striking. I also read a lot of philosophy and poetry—the first to help me ask big questions in my fiction, the second to help me choose the right word. Good question.

First off I wanted to say how big of a fan I am of yours. "Every Crooked Path" was the best book I have read in many, many years. It was probably also one of the hardest books for me to read due to the sensitive subject matter but you handled it masterfully. I was wondering if you ever thought about writing a book with another author? And if you could choose any other to write a book with, who would it be?
