Profanity is not the issue. Vonnegut is writing about big themes, never more important than today when the ice caps melt, the seas rise, and the forests burn. An intelligent teen wouldn't be put off by a few "swear words." Neither should their adult guides.

Cat's Cradle is relatively clean for a Kurt Vonnegut novel: it contains some coarse language and some discussion regarding sex, but nothing shocking. It's not as captivating as, say, Slaughterhouse Five, but if you are a Kurt Vonnegut fan, you will enjoy this book. If you are not familiar with Vonnegut, it may be difficult to get into: however, the book is short and the chapters are extremely brief.

This is an earlier work and is about as "clean" as they get until he reaches his Bluebeard stage, where he stopped using profanity because it gave short-minded people a reason not to take his concepts and philosophies seriously.
Debbie
Yes, it's clean and captivating.
The Church
It is certainly not dirty, and is quite captivating from a literary analysis perspective.
Andrei Simonov
Not clean at all, but a very interesting story! I read it in three sittings.
Brooke
The F-word is in it a few times ..... as an expletive.
Alexandra Carpenter
It's been a while since I read it, but typically Vonnegut isn't quite clean. :P I found it kept my attention pretty well. I was able to finish it in a week, and I was even traveling at the time.
