Besides Dave and John, are any other characters in your books based on real people? If so, who?
David Wong
Well not even Dave and John are based on REAL people, they're based on fictional versions of me and Mack Leighty (for instance, I've never drank alcohol in my life, Mack has been married with children since his mid-20s). In general you really can't grab real people from real life an stick them in your book wholesale, that's a good way to get sued. What you wind up doing is taking bits from real people (even if they're just strangers you saw on the bus one day) and combining them with other personality traits from elsewhere, and once you start writing they take on a life of their own. By the time you're done, they won't resemble anyone living in the actual world.

In Futuristic Violence there is a chapter where you describe a Korean girl who is sent back to Korea against her will in exchange for the Suit's freedom. Was that meant to be a red herring about the identity of the traitor? I assumed the girl was actually Echo at the time (until we learned a few chapters later that Echo is much too young to have been the girl). Also, loved the book!

When will your next book be released? I've been told FV&FS is getting a sequel, and will be your next book, which I find very exciting, I loved the first one. It's already been a whole 4 months or so since JDatE 3: WtHDIJR came out tho, so I'm going into withdrawal, and hoping I won't have to wait 2 years between books this time, because the wait between FV&FS and JDatE 3 was a long laughless length in literature.

I wanted to write to say I adore all your books and the movie. They act as a warm blanket against my soul-quivering anxiety, and I have recently purchased the audio-book of JDATE and TBIFOS, because it allows me to drive without crying, which I've heard is generally good for not dying in a spectacular car crash. So I want to say thanks for helping me out, via your books. Is it weird to be thanked for writing?
