I think it should be fine for older children who read above their recommended reading level. It's also good for younger teens (13-14), though the content itself is interesting enough that it should appeal to teens of all ages. The only swearing present is two mild curse words spoken during a brief, heated argument between the main character and his father. It does, however, describe the grueling conditions for climbers on Everest, including discussions of the various ways you can die up there.

Young adult.

I read it when I was 12, that age group would be good, the plot is complicated and the younger the more you need to reread it.
