What did the writing process for The Red Tent look like for you? Did you conduct heavy research on ancient cultures, and, if so, how much did you have to fill in the gaps yourself due to lack of historical information available?

Anita Diamant I did a fair amount of research, but the material I was most interested in -- regarding women's daily lives -- is largely absent from the historical record. I filled in lots of gaps, always trying to ground my guesses and surmises in the possible.

I LOVED this book! It's on my Favorite Books shelf, thank you! Every woman read it when released, leading to deep conversations. And then this: I described it to a male coworker: in biblical times women were banish to tents when menstruating, a time of great bonding for them etc. He looked at me w/the straightest face & asked "So it's a period piece?"! Have you heard other clever word plays based on the title/subject?
