Black Betty
Black Betty asked Kristen Ashley:

I'm loving your books!!!! I love how your voice is in each one, yet they are all so different. Do you get many ideas at once? I suppose I mean to ask, do you find many characters whisper their stories to you at once? Apologies if this question was asked and answered lots of times already :)

Kristen Ashley Yes, I have a lot of characters whispering in my ear all the time. I "tell myself" stories to put myself to sleep and sometimes when I have the occasion to allow my mind to wander (shower, while ironing, vacuuming, things like that), they force themselves in and sometimes do battle for my attention!

In fact, it's very rare that my mind isn't racing. If I'm not thinking of the things I have to do for the day (week, month), my head is making up a book. And it's the norm I'll have 4-6 books running in it all the time.

This is one of the many, many reasons I love music. It's the only thing that shuts that out. It might seem a boon for all that to be raring to go in my head, but sometimes it isn't. Mostly because I become very attached to these stories and it's difficult not to chuck it all out the window (you know...life, getting out of the house, buying groceries, going out to have dinner, showering, wearing what I call "real people clothes") and sitting at the computer for weeks at a time.

These other books also tempt me away from the one I might be writing and if I let them fly, I'd have 20 books almost written and none ready for release!

So it's like anything in life, an awesome boon that -- fingers crossed, knock on wood -- I never lose, but it comes with its issues so I have to learn to balance it out!
