Hi Abi, I want to start off by saying I absolutely loved The Cut & Run series! And here is my question: what gets you in the mood or zone to write? Is there a ritual or certain task you have to do before typing away?
Abigail Roux
I have to have peace before I can really be productive. If there's a lot going on around me I can't even begin, which is why I do most of my writing at night after my daughter goes to sleep. Airports, coffee shops, my living room at the height of the day; none of those places is conducive to creativity for me. Even if I have an hour or so that I know will be perfect, if I have somewhere to be, I won't even be able to get started. Just the threat of impending interruption knocks me right out of the saddle. But I can't have complete quiet, either, because it tends to unnerve me. That includes solitude and having no one to talk to! I find myself doing stuff to try to fill the emptiness, which is just as unproductive as having too much going on!
So a nice, happy in-between, with the cat purring nearby, with iTunes playing softly, with the world outside dark and calm, with people to talk with just a click or text message away, but not actually making sound or moving around me. That's about as much ritual as I ask for when I'm trying to write.

I was very excited to hear that you identify on the asexual spectrum. How do you feel your asexuality affects your writing? Since you do not experience sexual attraction (or experience it rarely), what do you draw on when you write (particularly when it comes to sex)? Does being asexual have anything to do with the fact that you write most m/m? I also identify as ace and love your books! Thanks!!!
