How do you get inspired to write?

Clare O'Beara Reading factual material for research is the best way.
I will know roughly what is going to happen, but how does it happen or where? When I research I find all this out - maybe I read about derelict Tube stations in London, or rare earth metals which I expect we will mine from the asteroid belt.
Crime stories need meticulous research because different police forces have different resources available while technology just keeps moving.
Romance stories for me need a solid background as I like to read information as well as entertainment. So deciding to write an equestrian romance was a good source of inspiration as I am a horse person.
