I wondered if when you start writing books in a series, do you know how many will be in the series and write them all in one fell swoop, or work on several different series/projects at the same time?

The fun part about writing a series is that you can watch it grow. It all began with one book and when I realized I had enough room to create more story and more characters, I simply kept going. A town is a large canvas!

When you write series like Virgin River, which have so many books, do you find it difficult avoiding repetitive patterns and giving each couple a unique story? Is it hard knowing the right balance of intermingling old characters into each new story since your fans have become so attached to them? Thank you!
