Sorry but I can't help. I never have it, and I offer my sympathy for those that do. In my case, I think I don't get it because before starting to write, I do intense research for c.3 to 5 months. Then I write the book. The only problem I then have is how to cram into each chapter all the things I want to say. After that, as far as I know, there is no Magic Fairy that slides down a moonbeam to whisper in your ear, telling you what to write. Or if there is, then she's never been anywhere near me (do tell if I've got this wrong, and you've actually met her). So I'd strongly advise against waiting for her, and to get back to the research.

I've just read all the Fletcher books and thoroughly enjoyed them! I particularly like books about the Napoleonic wars period but any books about wooden ships will do for me! I really appreciate the detailed descriptions of workings of the various parts of a ship which other authors often skip over. I know some of them were given by your hero, did he *really* exist or is he merely a convenient device? ;-) Bravo..

Does the character Kate feature in all the Fletcher series books or is she killed off (hopefully) ? I only ask as I have nearly finished Fletchers Fortune and I greatly fear that there will be a romantic angle intruding into the series and it felt a bit woke having her onboard too. Also there was a reference to the 1854 Charge of Light Brigade which I thought was a bit weird as the book was set in 1793 !
