Sorry that it took four months to respond! I wasn't getting notifications on new questions!
I think that my view of life was shaped more by parents, teachers, friends, etc. than books. But I can say that the book that had the most impact on me was THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, because I didn't realize that you were ALLOWED to be that silly in a book. I'd read plenty of books about wacky misadventures, but I'd never encountered that level of goofiness in fiction before. It validated the stuff I was writing.
(Don't get me wrong--I was a kid. I was writing terrible stuff. It just validated the TONE.)
