Goodreads asked Ruth Morgan:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Ruth Morgan For me it's the actual writing and idea-shaping process, especially when I'm immersed in writing a longer story. I'm not one of these writers who has it all meticulously plotted out beforehand (although I have a definite sense of where the story is headed) and very often I fall asleep at night trying to decide what's going to happen to my main character next. I also daydream about what might happen - what I'm going to make happen - when there's not much going on in real life. It's a really pleasurable state to be in - almost like having an alternative existence.
