Karis asked Melissa Marr:

You've written a book/ books series for each of your children, how did each idea come to be? Do the series/books reflect the personalities, likes/dislikes of your children at the time they were written for them?

Melissa Marr They do match each child's interests. The Wicked Lovely series was written for my daughter, who was reading books and irritated that a number of the girls weren't "strong enough." They were some obvious exceptions to that (I can't tell you how often I wanted to say THANK YOUT to Tamora Pierce!), but what my daughter wanted was more books with that kind of strength of character. (Incidentally, she was thrilled that Tammy blurbed Wicked Lovely.) She wanted people "who are interesting" and "some tattoos too." That's what I did.

The Blackwell Pages (Loki's Wolves, Odin's Ravens, & Thor's Serpents) started as a series for my then-12 yr old son (who is 15 now). He was dismayed by the lack of Norse books, and he wanted an adventure series for people who like Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, & Percy Jackson (all of which he loved).

Bunny Roo, I Love You (out in 2015) was literally written for my littlest son while we were in the hospital. The doctor told me to read to him or sing. I can't sing, and I had no books (we were in the hospital in Maine so I didn't know anyone who could go to the store). So . . . I wrote him a book out loud as I walked around rocking him, and in the breaks, I wrote it down on my iPhone.
