As this is a movie tie-in edition, is the content any different to the original novels (as in to make it more similar to the movies)? Or is it just the cover that is taken from the movies?

Just the cover. The Tolkien Estate, and in particular JRRT’s son Christopher, would have been very firmly against any modification of the books to conform with the movies — particularly since Christopher found the movies “unacceptable”*.
