Goodreads asked Carlene O'Connor:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Carlene O'Connor I teach a writing workshop that has an entire class devoted to this subject. There are many tools and "tricks" but the most important thing to recognize is that writers block is a fear of not writing perfectly. Writers need to give themselves permission to play on the page, to make mistakes, to write a terrible scene. Then they go back and fix. And rewrite. Writing is rewriting. This is a game of mistakes. Trying to get it perfect the first time will only get you blocked.
