Johnson was wandering despondent along the boardwalk, but he didn’t see Murphy. He saw Joy get bowled over.
The text reads:
“Johnson, who had been wandering despondently along the boardwalk since his conversation with Freya, snapped from his brooding meditations. He hustled to the scene of the ruckus, just in time to witness Joy get bowled over and knocked to the ground by the first rollerblader.”
Other cops and witnesses saw someone throw the juggling pin, but not Johnson. Also, there were a lot of people around and all was chaotic. Murphy took off running as soon as the police reached her.
