She thought that, because Stefano was a nice guy who didn't make her feel like he was buying her from her family, that he was different from Marcello. The shoes prove not only that Stefano and Marcello are ultimately cut from the same cloth (they wear the same shoe size after all) but that Stefano's intentions toward Lila aren't that different from what Marcello's were. Also, there's no escaping the neighborhood without a struggle.(less)
