eli asked Huntley Fitzpatrick:

I read and loved "My Life Next Door". My question is: What is your advice for aspiring authors? What is a method you would advise to use to write a book?

Huntley Fitzpatrick Hi Sarah,

My first advice for aspiring authors is always to keep an honest journal...write down that love and pain and awkward and boring and real.

The second is to read, read, read.

I don't really have a method, so I'm not the best author to consult on that one. I wish I did, and every year that's my new year's resolution. But I can tell you that I loved Jenny Han's advice at a convention we both went to this year "Eat dessert first". As in, write the scenes you love, and fill in the rest later.

Warmly,

Huntley
