What is the hardest part of writing a sequel just as thrilling as the first book and how do conquer this challenge?

Depends on the sequel and the kind of writer you are. If your series is plotted from the get go maybe it isn't too bad. And there are upsides. You know your characters pretty well by that point. But it's always a challenge. Every new book comes with its own set of problems.
