Brett
Brett asked Giles Kristian:

Giles, I am an accountant but i have a passion towards writing and becoming an author. It is very daunting the thought of writing just one book let alone a series. In 2016 i will go for it, and hopefully leave the financial world, which i loathe, behind. Historical fiction is my favourite genre. Could you offer any advice on the process? Kind regards Brett Gregory

Giles Kristian Hi Brett, so sorry for not seeing this. I'm useless at Goodreads. Are you getting anywhere with this ambition? i'm not sure I could recommend leaving a good job to become a writer. ;) It's incredibly hard to make a living as a novelist. I believe the average income for an author is around 12K. But if you have an urge to try, there's nothing to stop you. Indeed, it can be a compulsion, in which case it's not about the money anyway. Do you have a copy of the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook? It's an invaluable resource for new and established writers alike. Full of great advice and lists of agents and publishers. A must have book. Good luck!
