Don asked Michael J. Sullivan:

Michael, I am about finished with Theft of Swords. I love this book so much. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, as I am just now getting deeper into reading fantasy novels. My question is, are you planning on a sequel to your Revelations series at all? I know you have more Chronicles planned, I hope, but I would love to see the further adventures of Royce and Hadrian.

Michael J. Sullivan Hey Don, thanks for reading Theft of Swords. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and are excited for more. You are not the only one asking for sequel material rather than prequels...here's the deal.

The Riyria Revelations were written as a very specific ark with a particular start and a very crafted end. The series ended in what I (and I think the readers) feel is a very satisfactory way. When I finished the six books I had no intention on writing more stories with Royce and Hadrian. I had a tale, i told it. Fini. But, my wife became depressed and reminded me I could bring the boys back whenever I wanted to. That, combined with a lot of readers also clamoring for more made me change my opinion on "additional books.

What I didn't want to do is "tack on" to what I thought was a "perfect ending." So that's why I decided to go back in time and fully flesh in the teams origin story.

I have many more tales to tell set in the world of Elan - some in the past (Like the Legends of the First Empire books), and a few in the future. The question, especially at this time of my life is will the various stories get told before I croak. I've already outlived my father, and while I'm generally in good health, I do know there are more stories in my head than will ever get on paper, so I have to pick and choose carefully.

I'll be wrapping a new five-book series (in April or May) - it's already written but I'm doing a second-pass edit on books 2 - 5). And then I have several choices for new things - one is book in the future - although not sure whether it would be called a "sequel" - and another in the past - Telling Esrahadon's story. Which will I write first? Not sure. Plus there are a number of non-Elan books I'm interested in.

That's a long way of saying, I just don't know. Until I've actually started (and usually not until I've completed a book), I don't tend to talk much about a particular story. It's possible that once written it comes out terribly and can't be fixed - I have a few novels like that which are permanently "on hold."

It's only after I have a book far enough along that I know it's a keeper do I start saying much about it. So. . . I guess I'll let you know if and when I get to that point.
