I just finished the first book "The Shop On Blossom Street" and I started with that book because I want to read the whole series in order. However at the end of "Shop", there is an excerpt from Chapter 1 of "A Good Yarn" and I honestly felt like I was re-reading "Shop" because Lydia (the main character of "Shop" begins the chapter by reiterating the story almost verbatum from the book. Until I actually read "Good Yarn", I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing that you could start pretty much anywhere in the series and you'd get enough backstory to understand without having to read in order. "Yarn" feels like it's picking up literally where "Shop" left off, so I'm glad that I decided to read them in order. I'm going to do the same with "Cedar Cove" and "Blossom" When I get around to reading those. I'm hoping that with "Cedar Cove", watching the series will a quaint me enough with the characters that I can watch the Hallmark Series on DVD. Hope I didn't bore you with my long-winded answer! =)

I have only read the rose harbor series and reading the first book in the blossomstreet series. Speaking about the rose harbor series, I believe you could read any one and understand what is going on. But it's an enjoyable serie and this book is fun so far. Hope this helps.

Both. You could read any alone. But once you start reading more than one, you find that Blossom Street comes in somewhere and many characters, especially Lydia early on, recur.
This book was so powerful to me, and it definitely lays down so much about Lydia that I would definitely start here.
The one exception, Susannah's Garden occurs totally outside the context of books before it but introduces Susannah who recurs at least once. I read it first and didn't miss anything.

You would probably be okay reading out of order, but I wouldn't because as you go on there are characters that are mentioned and arcs that were started in previous books you won't recognize unless you read the books in which they first appear (Alix, for instance, is a primary character in book one and at least one other in the series).

I think this book can stand on it's own'--that's how I read it. I don't like series books and read out-of-sequence most of the time. It would bore me to read a series because then all of the other books I want to read are not getting as much attention. But if you like series, by all means, read them in-sequence.
