Okay, so my last question was stupid, sorry about that, don't answer it if you don't want to, but now I have a real question: How does reading a different book while writing another influence your writing?

Shannon Messenger Not sure I remember what your last question was--but I don't remember any questions being stupid so I think you're being too hard on yourself.

As for this question, I wouldn't say that reading a different book while writing "influences" me. If anything, it might tell me what not to do if I run across an idea that feels too similar to something I'd been considering. But that's pretty rare. I'm SO deep into my series that the story, characters, and world are all pretty set, and nothing I see or read is going to change that. So mostly reading gives my mind a rest. A chance to sit back and marvel at the brilliance and imagination of other writers and not have to think about wrestling my own chapters into submission.
