Goodreads asked Lacey Dearie:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lacey Dearie Firstly, be patient. It took me twelve years to get to where I am now and I still have a long way to go before I'll be satisfied with my career. Also, don't expect every day to be a good day. I have days when sales drop, I'm getting one star reviews, I can't clear my head and everybody seems to be demanding my attention. Take a deep breath, eat some chocolate or drink some coffee (whatever your vice is) and sit down to write. Lastly, don't accept every opportunity that comes your way. People expect writers to work for free much of the time and if you value yourself and your skills as worth nothing, you're selling yourself short, no matter who you are or how good/bad your work is. Everybody deserves to be paid for their time and effort.
