Janet Williams asked Robyn Carr:

I want to know why you and other authors feel it necessary to use the "f" word in your writing. Other authors that I read don't use it and I thoroughly enjoy their books more because of that fact.

Robyn Carr I can't speak for all authors, but I certainly don't find it necessary to use curse words because they're curse words. I work very, very hard to write fiction for adults that is realistic and vivid. That means some characters who, if you met them on the street, you would notice their ease with using words that you might not use. And some of my characters NEVER swear because that would be out of character and unrealistic for THEM. For example, a man who has spent 20 years in the Marine Corps and has served in 5 war zones is probably not going to say 'gosh darn it' when he's angry. It's all part of developing the most solid, realistic and believable characters. If such language really bothers you and takes away your ability to otherwise enjoy the story, I suggest avoiding those books and authors. And definitely stay away from all Pulitzer Prize winners!
