The two had been forced to fight to the death, and the father commanded his son to kill him and, so, be spared.

It ties the story together, reinforcing the theme of healing through community. The man had been killed by white racists, then buried like trash. Now, Frank and Cee will give him a proper burial, wrapped in Cee's healing quilt. (less)
