I've never read a Terry Pratchett book before despite the fact that I've been coerced to on multiple occasions. I've now been given a copy of Small Gods - is this a good place to start? Is it a book that will 'stand alone' or will I need to have read something before this?

Additionally, unlike most of the other recommended starter books, Small Gods is later into the series and gives a good taste of what Prachett's work reads like through the middle of the Discworld.(less)
