Goodreads asked Jennifer Lynn Alvarez:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jennifer Lynn Alvarez Write your first drafts straight through without judgment! This works for me, it might not work for you, but I can only advise from my own experience. For me, I need to trap my entire story before I can start to analyze it too much. It's like a living thing. Once I have captured it, then I can take my time revising and polishing it. But the main point I want to make is to finish your projects by any means necessary. I used to quit on mine after the first few pages, when I was a kid, and I think that's normal, but at some point you have to finish. It will build the endurance you need to become a novelist.
