Hi Hugh, I'm considering self-publishing a novella I finished recently (approx. 13,000 words) as an eBook, but I'm hesitating because I'm not much of a designer and I'm not sure if I have the time to self-publish. Any advice on how to get started?

Hugh Howey Congrats on finishing your novella! I would start with KDP. I published a title there two weeks ago and used their cover generator. The results were better than I thought they'd be. I uploaded the Word file, and their software did the rest.

I don't think it'll sell a ton of copies but it was important for me to do this, because I love to write and wanted to share it (plus make some money, if not a lot). I was surprised to hear that "Wool" started out as a short story on Kindle instead of a novel. How did it take off? Where you surprised? Did you promote it or did it just happen? Thank you.
