I actually outlined the book over the 6 month period in which the book takes place, using a huge wall calendar. Because I had the outline, I didn't write in order. If I felt like writing about therapy one day, I would, and if I felt like doing a legal chapter, I could. I also didn't put a lot of pressure on myself if I didn't feel like writing - the urge would always come back after a few days.
