I had to finish the book even though the descriptions go on and on and on. It's not like we are actually going to make any of the tools and pots and medicines Ayla makes. The highly unnecessary detailed descriptions of sex make me wonder if the author is deprived--not depraved. Anyway, it is an ingenious attempt at picturing cave life. I'm going to get the next one out of the library and see if it is as good as the first one. #2 had it's moments; could have been half as long.

Did you finish it? I actually liked the first part of the book and found the last quarter insufferable. I was hoping for historical fiction and got a harlequin romance instead.
Sharron
I would definitely say yes as well, especially if you read the first book in the series, Clan of the Cave Bear. I am enjoying the second book immensely because of what's in store for Ayla.

Did you enjoy Clan of the cave bear? If so then yes, keep reading.

I loved all these books. But I suggest you read them in order if you can.

BluePanda
Super boring. a big disappointment after clan
Drew
NO! Not unless you actually like endless detailed descriptions, repetitions and graphic sex.

If you haven't read the Clan of The Cavebear I suppose it is a bit slow,

I started out reading very slowly, a little bit each night. I personally was very interested in the technology and techniques of survival, especially as I'm interested in herbs (learned a few new uses for some). It really picked up when the guys' chapters started, though I preferred reading about Ayla much more. Midway through I picked up the pace and raced through the last quarter of the book to the (ahem) climax. May go and re-read for specific techniques, taking notes, as I don't own this book.
I read Clan o CaveBear long ago. I enjoyed this one more, much more, partly because the sex, while graphic, was all about pleasure. I liked A&J's relationship, while I really liked how strong Ayla was, and the acceptance, eventually of J re: the Clan/Neanderthals/Flatheads.
