Honestly, it has been the people that I've met. I went to Bouchercon, a mystery conference, in October and was overawed by the warmth, generosity and camaraderie among the writers. Writing is by nature an isolating occupation so it was amazing to see all these writers come together who in theory are competitors but in reality seemed to delight in each other's success. It's a remarkable community of artists, and I count myself fortunate to now be their colleague. Next years Bouchercon is in New Orleans, and I made a reservation the day I got back.

"Short Drop" is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Thanks for the effort and hard work. I saw that you are planning to release a new book in October 2016. Can't wait. I know publishers want to give you a firm deadline, but since this is apparently only your second book, how do you get comfortable with having to complete a book on someone else's timeline?

Matthew, I just finished The Short Drop audio book. I loved this book so much that I immediately started again from the beginning to go back through and listen for all the subtleties. You are very talented, my friend. I will immediately buy your next book. Your characters, and story, are presented in such a way that my brain turns all of it into a movie. Congratulations. Sell many copies and eat some cherry pie! (?)

First, awesome book! I found your book thru the Kindle First program and I'm glad I did. The plot had me hooked from the start. The thing I like the most is that Gibson Vaughn is an average, flawed guy and not some big, bad never makes mistakes hero. So, where did you get the idea for his character? And, how hard is it to stay in character if he differs from you?
