Janie Coster
Janie Coster asked Colleen Hoover:

Hi Colleen, when you published your first novel how did you promote it? I am an author as well and have been told by many that social media is not what it is cracked up to be when it comes to real promotion. Thanks

Colleen Hoover Unfortunately, that's true in a sense. I honestly believe word of mouth is the best form of marketing there is, but the key is finding the core group of readers who love your books enough to tell the whole world about them. I believe I got into the business at the perfect time when the market for self-published books wasn't very saturated. When there was a new release, it was usually the only one that week and everyone clamored to get it. Nowadays, it's much tougher to break out of the crowd. Had I published just two years later than I did, I don't think anyone would have picked up my book. I wish I had a secret I could reveal, but my secret was good luck and good timing. There are a million great writers out there and not all of them get noticed. I always say to any new writer out there to write because you love it and lose your expectations. That way you won't grow irritated with what should be enjoyable to you.
