Hello, Mr. Shan, I'm Klaudia from Hungary, and I would like to ask about the vampires' society. Since I started to have an interest in the Japanese culture I started to see a lots of common things between the vampires in your books and the morals of samurais and the morals of the Japanese society. Have I seen behind the curtains and catched your inspiration?

Darren Shan I based my vampires on a number of real societies, past and present, such as the Masai Mara in Africa, the ancient Celts in Ireland, and, yes, the Samurai in Japan. I didn't want my vampire to simply be blood-sucking monsters. I approached them as a sociologist and tried to create a society that felt logical and believable.
