I loved The Red Hourglass! I was brought up in a place full of exotic fauna, and have always been entranced by the natural world. But you looked at nature, and wrote about it, in such a uniquely dark and beautiful way...I really admired the book. Still do. My question - what came first for you, the interest in nature or the interest in writing?

Hi Marc--thanks for the kind words. I first realized I was supposed to be a writer when I learned to read, around age six or seven. I'd already been fascinated with animals for a long time by then--as long as I can remember.
