I'm a little more than half way through Head Full of Ghosts. Fantastic read so far. I was wondering what inspired you to write a book that clearly pays homage to exorcism books and movies that came before, but in a way that (so far) subverts the well established tropes of all of them? Did it start out as a more conventional Exorcism story and evolve?
Paul Tremblay
I actually started with thinking, "Hmm, there have been lots of luke-warm PG13 possession movies in the last 10/15 years but no one has really written a possession novel in a while, how would I do one?" I knew that I'd have to address the Blatty-sized elephant in the room. Instead of ducking the Exorcist, I decided to address it head on (with the blog posts) and thought it would be another cool way to build the ambiguity by letting the reader know that yeah, you've seen some of this before, but then again, have you? And also make what's-real-what's-not even more murky.

Hey Paul, thanks for being my new favorite author. Honestly, I cried when I read A cabin at the end of the world, and I couldn't sleep last night after I finished A head full of ghosts, because I was scared. You are doing a great job and I enjoy reading you a lot. So my question is: do you plan on writing a sequel to A head full of ghosts? Or a story focus on Merry, cause I LOVE HER and I don't want to say goodbye!

I've just finished A Head Full of Ghosts and come to decompress. This is one of the best unreliable narrators I've come across in a long time. Thanks for such a thought-provoking, allusion-filled ride! The ending's so open; I'm kicking around about 5 options. Do you yourself have a clear view about the ending (you don't have to say what it is), or do you prefer, in your own mind, never to resolve the ambiguity?
