Please do reconsider-- a blurb is almost never written by an author, and if you knew anything about Dr. Greger himself, you'd know he didn't write it! Think of a blurb like a book's cover-- it's an ad written by the publisher.
My introduction to Dr. Greger was years back when I heard him speak at a local vegetarian expo. I'm not a vegetarian, but I was quite taken with his refreshing attitude on both medicine and well-being-- he's a straight talker who backs up everything he says with actual citations, and is never afraid to revise an earlier opinion based on new (and solid) information. I've been an avid reader of his website for some years now, and I'm glad to see his words getting out to more folks. If you're still undecided, visit his website and watch any of his short videos or articles, and if you like what you see, think of this book as a nifty way to show your support of his work. It's great stuff!

I agree. But on Dr. Greger's official (and amazing) website, he does not mention Dr. Oz and I have a feeling that is intentional. The bio on GoodReads is likely old or written by someone who thinks Dr. Oz is credible (or thinks that mentioning Dr. Oz will garner attention from the masses, which is probably true).

Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees… these things happen.
Dr. Greger's book is an excellent resource, despite his having appeared on Dr. Oz. He's trying to reach as many as he can with good nutritional information.
Dr. Oz has an audience who desperately need solid information, given some of the other pap that they're hearing there…

Dr. Greger is as credible as they come. The book is fascinating and full of useful information. I've been following a plant-based diet for more than 9 years and I am learning plenty. Plus, Greger's style is entertaining. I know he had help writing this book, but it sounds just like he does when he makes presentations to groups.

I agree, reconsider. I've met Dr. Greger a couple of times. Most recently in Albany, probably two or three years ago. I have purchased many of his DVD's over the years, and he is someone whose work and opinion I trust.

Dr. Oz is a quack but Dr. Greger is about as credible as they come. He spends his life reading through medical journals to glean information about nutrition, then shares with the public, free of cost, at his website nutritionfacts.org. All his recommendations are evidence-based.

He's a doctor. Strike one. He's a cardiologist. Strike two. He's been on Dr. Oz (I don't care if he didn't WRITE it, he was ON THE SHOW). Strike three.
How not to die? Eat good food. Avoid doctors like they had the plague. They do. "Staying alive" is not more complicated than that.

I think it's irrelevant what show he appeared on ... and if that is how you are going to judge your sources you might miss out on some good information :)

Please read this book. I'm guessing Dr. Greger simply found appearing on Dr. Oz as a way to spread his message. This book has changed how I eat and what I do on a daily basis. The research he does for every aspect of the book is thorough. He also takes no money from any of the proceeds of his book sales. Dr. Greger's purpose is to provide us with the best medical advice available--even if it means going on Dr. Oz to inform others.

Who cares Just read it. You're going to let a little blurb ruin al the wealth of knowledge that's in this book?

I too think he's an amazing cardiologist but his talk show is filled with 3 different fad diets per week, all of which he says are the best, and so, actually too many supplement recommendations...Will not watch. He's always pushing something on you...
Linda
I don't think appearing on Dr Oz is necessarily a good thing. He's had lots of fad diets and supplements on his show. I think he's a great cardiologist.
