Luke Smith-Palomeque asked this question about The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1):
So far, I've been astounded by Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller series and I'm aching for something with the same oomph. This has been compared a few times, once by Pat himself on here, but I wanted the readers opinion. Is this a series worth getting into? I love everything about the Kingkiller Chronicles and this has peaked my interest!
John Sorry that it took me 49 days to see your question- perhaps you've already read the book by now, But I'll throw in a couple of cents anyway :)

I read and loved both 'The Name of the Wind', and 'The Wise Man's Fear'.

But, I'd be a liar if I told you I didn't love 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' even more.
It just gets everything right, in my book.
The pacing is great; by the last hundred pages, the stakes were raised so high that I just couldn't turn away, it was so epic and intense.
The dialogue is masterful; very profane, generally, but with well crafted purpose. Many of the main character's lines gave me chills.
The fight scenes were incredible, and only got better as the story reached its climax. I almost cheered out loud several times.
The characters were all so dynamic, alive. Our main cast of "Heroes"-I guess we'll call 'em that- is a group of endearing individuals that you really get to feel like you actually know as people, and the villains... Well, Scott Lynch really knows how to write an awesome villain.
All things considered, I think if you love 'The Kingkiller Chronicle' you'll love this too. This book has a good deal of Brain and a whole lot of heart. I recommend it greatly.(less)
