How did the Forbes couple of the first part of the Millennium-2 fit in the story? I have read the whole series now but I still cannot understand their inclusion.Am I missing something?

I wondered, too, if the Forbes thing would come back up, and it never did. So my only guesses are that it was used A.) to preemptively vindicate Salander of Dag & Mia's murder, (because why would she murder two people to whom she is morally sympathetic?) and B.) as a well-deserved character-building vignette because, let's be honest, even as the titular character, she doesn't get a lot of airtime in Played with Fire.(less)
