Goodreads asked Sean Patrick Brennan:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Sean Patrick Brennan I let myself fall into distraction at times, because I find my writing will soon enough become the distraction from the distractions again. I've also got a trick for writer's block: write nonsense until truth appears. Whether it's poetry or prose, try this exercise: 1) Type "Start time:" and "End time" on your document. 2) Wait for the next minute to arrive, and write the time next to the start time. 3) Write nonsense, stream of conscious stuff like "forward backward true and false turtles of the obtuse construction paper plumage referential wisdom undefined rat's ass development structure" and so on. 4) Once you feel you're done, write in the end time, and be done for the moment. Your result might teach you something, or it might not, but either way, you'll be that much more refreshed, and ready to write something real.
