I don't think it was writer's error, just good drama. Interesting that in mentioning Sleuth, Baker succeeded in referencing a movie based on a play in her play about the movies.
One the subject of writer error: I had a little trouble accepting that Rose would be handling individual film reels to load a projector in 2013 (and you'd need two projectors to run a movie that way since you'd have to switch off reels. The Flick appeared to only have one.) Using a platter system seemed much more likely, but not using the iconic film reel just wouldn't look as good on stage. I think she did a lot that wasn't quite realistic because it just made an excellent play.
