Drew Gerken
Drew Gerken asked Mary Robinette Kowal:

Do you find that you are a more productive writer in certain locations? Do you need to be in a specific setting such as a closed-off room, at a café, or on the beach of Lake Michigan?

Mary Robinette Kowal Anywhere without internet.

In all seriousness though, when I started writing, I was still on tour as a puppeteer. I had to learn to be productive in totally random environments. This might be why I like writing on trains so much, actually... huh. Hadn't thought of that before.

What consistently works well for me is to take a walk before I start working, while actively thinking about the thing I'm going to write. That helps me switch gears and be ready to go when I sit down.
